Rockford College has been picked to win the 2010 Northern Athletics Conference Baseball Championship, according to the preseason coaches' poll. The Regents received 131 poll points and five first place votes.
Rockford finished second in the NAC standings with a 17-5 conference record (27-14 overall) last season, just a game back of Concordia University Chicago (33-15, 18-4 NAC). CUC, which also won the NAC tournament and a trip to the NCAA III championship last season, was picked in a tie for second place with 124 poll points and four first place votes.
Aurora University (29-13, 16-6) also had 124 poll points and received two first place votes. CUW (22-17, 14-8) was chosen fourth with 104 points.
Edgewood College (21-17, 12-10) was fifth with 97 points, while Benedictine University (22-20, 14-8) rounded out the top half at sixth- tallying 89 points and the remaining first place vote. Marian University (20-20, 11-11) was tabbed seventh (71 points), Dominican University (18-20, 11-11) eighth (65 points), Lakeland College (13-24,10-12) ninth (52 points); MSOE (9-29-1, 4-18); 10th (34 points); Wisconsin Lutheran College (12-28, 5-17) 11th (33 points); and Maranatha Baptist Bible College (3-28, 0-22) last with 12 points.
The 2010 NAC Baseball Tournament, which features the conference's top four teams, will take place May 14-15 at in Road Ranger Stadium outside of Rockford. The tourney is hosted by Edgewood College. The tournament champion will become the conference's automatic qualifier to the 2010 NCAA III Championship which begins on Thursday, May 19 at a site to be determined.
