Rockford rallies past CUW 8-5 in Round 1

Loves Park, IL

CUW jumped out to a 4-0 lead with twin tallies in the fourth and fifth innings but Rockford came behind the long ball to win 8-5 in their first round NAC Championship matchup.

Concordia's Adam Martz doubled home Matt Mayer and Ryan Schilter to make it 2-0 in the fourth before Mayer and Schilter drove in 5th inning runs to up the count to 4-0.

CUW pitcher Derrick Pankow was sailing along until the Rockford 5th. One Regent run had already scored in that inning before Eric Nicholson launched a 3 run homer to tie the contest.

Then Rockford added a pair of unearned scores in the 6th to take the lead.

Schilter drove in a Concordia marker in the 7th to make it 6-5 but that was as close as CUW got.

Rockford added a pair of insurance runs in the 8th and Ben Korth (in relief of Rockford starter Kevin Patterson) held the Falcons at bay.

Austin Sarauer and Ryan Schilter each had two of the Falcon's 8 hits.
