The Falcons (1-0 in the NAC) host the Benedictine Eagles this weekend. The Eagles (also 1-0 in conference action) are 2-2 overall and are coming off a huge win against Aurora University who were the preseason favorites to win the conference title.
The Eagles like to run the ball and are earning a reputation for their sound, physical defense. The Falcons defense faces a big challenge in stopping runs by the Eagles two playmakers on offense QB Dave Klinger and RB Derek Hitt.
Concordia will have to match the BU intensity and play physical on both sides of the ball in order to win. Although the CUW cornerbacks played better last week they still will have to step up against Benedictine sweeps this week. The Falcons defense looks to them to create more turnovers which will in turn give the ball to the offense.
The key to victory according to Defensive backs coach Jim Kehoe is pretty simple. "We must eliminate mental mistakes and create more turnovers. We also need more ball control- keeping our defense off the field."
My prediction is the Falcons will win 34-17.
