White’s Wisdom- CUW travels to WLC

This Thursday Wisconsin Lutheran (2-1 in the league and 3-3 overall) will host the Falcons in the second annual Lutheran Bowl. Concordia, undefeated in league play, is coming off a key 24-21 win over pre-season favorite Aurora University. The Warriors hope to bring home the Luther Cup Thursday night and create a logjam at the top of the league standings. In order to win the Falcon defense will have to contain the Warriors Dominique Johnson who has seven receiving touchdowns on the year. In last year's CUW- WLC matchup, Johnson had 7 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. The Warriors offense has already scored fourteen touchdowns this season with Johnson responsible for seven of those scores. Wisconsin Lutheran, with plenty of firepower, also features a pair of solid running backs in Larry Hairl and Jesse Muldrow. Coming into 2009, WLC heralded the return of ten starters on defense from a team that was 4-6 overall last season. The Warriors are just one controversial penalty away from being undefeated in the NAC in 2009; that late flag costing Wisconsin Lutheran a 4th quarter touchdown in what ended up being a 14-9 loss at Lakeland.

Keys to victory:

The Falcon defense will have to find ways to slow down Johnson and the Warriors passing game. Last week the Falcons defense had 6 sacks, 10 pass break-ups and 3 interceptions. The Falcons hope to continue that trend against the Warriors. The Falcons offense will have to play consistently for four quarters and move the ball while putting points on the scoreboard.

My prediction- the Falcons win 28-14
