White’s Wisdom

Concordia Chicago Pregame

The Falcons (4-0 in the NAC) have an unprecedented challenge when they visit Chicago Saturday.

The Cougars of Concordia-Chicago, 3-1 in the league, are 6-1 overall for the first time in school history and boast the eighth ranked offense in the country. They average an astounding 487.4 yards of total offense and 35.9 points a game. QB Mike Marotta as an array of receivers to choose from in their pass-happy offense.

Look for the Cougars to take to the air behind star receiver Mike Egebrecht who is averaging 116 receiving yards per game. The upstart hosts will also try and assert their dominance on the ground with running back Khyree Copeland who is averaging 5.7 yards per carry.

The visiting Falcons, who have defeated their Illinois counterparts 22 straight times, will rely heavily on a stout defense- and the secondary will need to limit big plays. Greg Etter's team is studying a lot of film this week in order to find out what the Cougars tendencies are.

In the Art of War Sun Tzu says: "If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat."

Keys to Victory: The Falcons will have to keep the CU-C defense honest by mixing the pass in with the run. The Falcons need to establish the run but try to stay balance and refrain from becoming one dimensional. The defense will have to answer the call and step up and put pressure on the offense. They will need to win the third down battle and establish their physical dominance in the trenches.

- My prediction is the Falcons will win 20-17
