Falcons fall in closing seconds 21-14
Concordia took a 14-13 lead with on a TD toss from Pat Czerwiek to Vincent Greefkes with just 2:32 remaining in regulation but host Aurora came back to win, going 55 yards in 10 plays over the final two minutes for their winning score.
The Spartans scored on their first possession but missed the point after. That 6-0 margin held up until Jonathon Johnson's 3 yard second quarter run and Dan Winsey's point after made it 7-6 Falcons at the break.
Aurora got a gift TD in the third quarter, only needing to travel 9 yards after a Concordia fumble gave them great field position.
Greg Etter's forces (2-5 overall) appeared to have pulled out the win after their most exciting drive of the season, a 10 play 70 yard march capped by the Czerwiek- Greefkes connection.
Back came Aurora (5-2), however, getting a 10 yard TD strike from John Bevell to Jay Fellers with just :26 left in the contest.
The much-improved Falcon defense was stalwart all afternoon until the final Spartan drive. Aurora totaled just one yard rushing for the day but had 238 yards through the air. Andrew Hobus led the tackle charts for CUW with 7, including a trio of sacks.
Concordia had better balance with 74 rushing yards and 165 via passing as Czerwiek connected on 12 of 29. Leon Davis snared 4 passes for 78 yards and Greefkes added 3 catches for 44.
Homecoming is next Saturday as the Falcons host Wisconsin Lutheran at Century Stadium.
