Falcon football travels to Maranatha Saturday

Mequon, Wis.- Concordia University-Wisconsin (1-3 overall) travels to Watertown Saturday afternoon for a 1:00pm matchup against host Maranatha (2-2). The hosts were blasted 61-0 by Wisconsin Lutheran in their home opener while CUW defeated Rockford 48-14 on the road.

Crusader quarterback Phil Littrell has completed 56 of 136 aerials (41.6%) for 676 yards in four outings. Receivers Logan Beer, Joel Kobush, and Josiah Brendemuehl have combined to snare 46 of those 56 completions.

Maranatha's ground attack features a Micah Burt and Jordan Dersch inside-outside combination. The pair have toted the pigskin a combined 89 times for 313 yards.

WLC piled up 570 yards of offense against MBBC last week while holding the Crusaders to 100 total yards on the afternoon. Maranatha trailed by a 37-0 count going into halftime and the Warriors continued to pour it on after the break.

Greg Etter's Falcons, 1-0 in conference play, need a win to keep pace with the NAC frontrunners heading into a crucial Homecoming encounter with pre-season favorite Benedictine on October 15th.

Freshman Austin Damaschke (Bristol, Wis.) will get his second start at quarterback for Concordia after a solid outing against Rockford.

Damaschke will hand the ball off to running backs Carlton Austin (Kingsford Heights, Ind.) who has managed 188 yards in 50 carries and Joseph Paul (West Bend, Wis.) who has 43 attempts for 139 yards to date. Both hope to improve on yards-per-carry averages that are currently below 4.0.

Erik West (Plymouth, Wis.), James Saunders (Riverview, Fla.), and Vincent Greefkes (Jackson, Wis.) will search for holes in the Crusader pass defense. The trio have combined 30 catches amassing 337 yards in 4 games.

Concordia held Rockford to 199 total yards last weekend and the Falcons hope for an even more miniscule tally at Maranatha. Linebackers Zac Wielepski (Oak Creek, Wis.) and Matt Upson continue to lead the Falcon tackle charts.
