Will ”Best Recruiting Year” pay off for Falcon linksters?

Mequon

Concordia Golf has had it's "best recruiting year since I have been here," according to Coach Ray Engelking. "We have nine freshmen and two transfer students joining our three veterans," explained the 4th year coach. Last year CUW lost golfers to internships, transfers, and injury- but things have changed.

"This could still be labeled a rebuilding year, but it could also be an excellent Fall if our potential is fulfilled. Our #1 golfer is back (Phil Waare) and I totally expect him to be one of the top ten golfers in the conference. Tim Dehn and Greg Rusch have the potential to bring it on in conference meets. I expect them to do so based on their history with the team.

Engelking has his eye on freshmen Jon Wengle and Eric Hertal. "They are looking at single digit handicaps if they can get past the freshman doubts," he says. Joining the team this year are some solid players who can score in the low 80's if their game comes together. Ryan O'Connell, Terry Quillen, Nick Falkowski, and Alex Graf are "contenders".

Rounding out the 2009 varsity team are Eric Everson, Micheal Wyenn, Casey Krahenbuhl, and Steve Sheehan. All are working on lowering their handicaps and contributing to a great season. "If all goes as expected, we should be very competitive. This is a good foundation to build a solid team on for the future, and maybe even this year," according to the enthusiastic mentor.
