Lawrence skaters rally to defeat CUW men 5-4
Ozaukee Ice Center
Concordia (0-6-0) built a 4-1 lead near the end of the second period but could not hold on against Lawrence (3-1-0), falling 5-4 to the Vikings at the Ozaukee Ice Center last evening.
Ryan Roeming gave CUW a 1-0 lead at 2:18 of the first period and Brandon Bayer's score in the opening seconds of the second session made it 2-0.
Lawrence got one back before Concordia's Graylyn Douglas and Russell Johnson tallied in rapid succession to make it 4-1 Falcons.
At that point Lawrence made a goalie change and LU's Evan Johnson shut down the Falcons for the remainder of the contest.
A CUW defensive lapse near the end of the second period gave the visitors renewed energy as the Viking's Matt Hughes scored twice in a :30 span over the final two minutes of the second period to cut the Lawrence deficit to just 4-3.
Unfortunately LU added the tying and winning tallies against CUW goalie Everett Devlin in the 3rd period. Devlin made 34 saves compared to a combined 14 for the Viking goalies.
