WAUKESHA, Wis. – Following a week in which the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team went 3-0-0, sophomore forward Devin Stuermer and goalie Domingo Torrenueva were honored as Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week by the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, the league announced Tuesday.
Torrenueva (Oshawa, Ontario) was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week along with St. Norbert College goaltender David Jacobson. He won all three games he started last week to improve his record to 6-0-0 in games which he has started this season. The sophomore made 100 saves in the three games and posted a .935 save percentage.
Torrenueva is part of a talented group of NCHA goalies, one that includes Jacobson, a player he will face off against this weekend. Jacobson and Torrenueva rank 2-3 in all of Division III in winning percentage and trail only Adrian's Scott Schakell, another NCHA goaltender.
Stuermer (Milwaukee, Wis.) picked up his second Offensive Player of the Week award of the season after scoring four goals over the three games last week. He has now lit the lamp in six straight games, tying the Falcons program mark for most consecutive games with a point scored. His best game of the week came in a 5-2 win over Augsburg College where he scored twice, including the game-winner.
These two will lead the Falcons into a series against No. 4 St. Norbert this weekend. CUW will host SNC on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Ozaukee Ice Center. The Falcons will then travel to face the Green Knights on Saturday at 7 p.m.
