MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team took to the ice for the first time in 2018, falling in NCHA play against Marian. The Sabres, who built a 2-1 lead, scored two empty-net goals late to hand the Falcons a 4-1 setback.

THE BASICS
- Final Score:
Marian 4, Concordia Wisconsin
- Location: Ozaukee Ice Center – Mequon, Wisconsin
- Records: Marian 9-3-1, 4-3 NCHA; Concordia Wisconsin 8-4-2, 4-3 NCHA

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It took 10:29 into the second period for the scoring to start Friday as the Sabres struck first. The goal, which came off the stick of Connor Blanck, was scored when Blanck threw a shot on from beyond the blue line. The score was the only one of the second period as well.

- The teams traded power play goals in the third, with the Falcons coming off the stick of Jim Pearson (Ashton, Ontario) with 6:06 left to play, cutting the Marian lead to 2-1. Mac Ferner (Vernon, British Columbia) and Dante Hahn (Victoria, British Columbia) picked up assists on the lone Falcons score of the evening.

- The Falcons were forced to pull Jack Romanuik (Melfort, Saskatchewan) in favor of the extra skater late in the third period but the Sabres were able to get a pair of empty-net scores to pull away. Hunter Stewart had the first, followed by Jake Howie.

- Both teams did a good job of staying out of the penalty box, each totaling just three infractions. One of the Sabres was a five-minute major early in the second period but CUW couldn't take advantage of the extended power play. Each team was 1-for-3 with the advantage Friday.

- Romanuik totaled 19 saves in his first setback of the season, moving his record to 2-1. Hunter Vorva tallied 30 saves for the Sabres.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will host Lawrence for another NCHA showdown tomorrow night. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
