Falcons struggle to score at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin just couldn't find the back of the net on Tuesday evening, as Carthage received impressive goalkeeping and faceoff play during a 10-4 non-conference victory at Art Keller Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Men slowly wore down the Falcons as each quarter passed and held the visitors to just a goal in the first and third quarters, and none in the final 15 minutes of action.
- Carthage received stellar play from goalkeeper Ryan Smith who made 11 saves, some of them in difficult situations and Andy Meyers who won 14-of-17 faceoffs.
- Concordia Wisconsin had some good looks throughout the contest, but just couldn't find the back of the net. Sophomore Stephen Gregory (Louisville, Ky.) had two goals, while senior Kellen Asmundson (Inver Grove, Minn.) and sophomore Aidan Connolly (Grayslake, Ill.) each had a marker.
- A trio of Falcons picked up three ground balls and senior Benjamin Smith (Round Lake Beach, Ill.) caused three turnovers.
- Sophomore Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.) made seven saves in a losing effort.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Smith tied the program record for caused turnovers, also held by Mark Wilson, and is now at 79 in his career.
- During both of the Falcons losses this season they have scored just four goals.

THE OPPOSITION
- Billy Lane led all scorers with a hat trick, while Luke Seydel and Andy Szun each had a pair of goals.
- Andrew Krom and Ben Morgan each finished with a score and two assists.
- Andy Meyers won 14-of-17 faceoffs and picked up 13 ground balls, while also causing three turnovers.
- Ryan Smith earned the victory in goal after making 11 saves.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- Concordia Wisconsin ends its three-game road trip by hosting MSOE on Saturday at 12 pm in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference opener for both programs.
