In what Tom Saleska called "an extremely physical match," CUW (4-1-1) staved off talented Aurora 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Fitting Field in an exciting NAC opener. Trevor Hess got the Falcon goal off an assist from Victor Mendoza but the outcome was in doubt until the end when CUW goalie Tom Anderson made a tremendous save on an "almost certain Aurora goal" in the closing minutes.
"Our defense played so well throughout," praised Saleska, "and Dan Braun took their most dangerous player out of the game."
CUW, winner of four straight matches, waltzes from the frying pan into the fire Monday evening when the Falcons travel to UW-Oshkosh. The host Titans will be ripe for revenge after Concordia handed them a 1-0 defeat last season- dashing their NCAA Tourney bid hopes in the process.
