MADISON, Wis.- Jacob Pope (Jr./ Muskego, Wis.) continued his recent late game heroics, leaping to knock home a header off a chip from Kyle Sytsma (Sr./ Antioch, Ill.) midway through the second half and giving CUW a 1-0 win over host Edgewood Tuesday night.
The important victory improved the Falcons to 7-1-0 in league play and set up Saturday's 1:00pm home match with Dominican, 9-0-0 in the NAC, at Fitting Field. The Stars are ranked #6 and #13 in the two major D3 soccer polls.
CUW dominated statistically last night with a 21-8 shot advantage, but Matt Dammen was outstanding in goal for the Eagles. "We missed a couple of very good opportunities and their goalie had 11 saves," said Tom Saleska.
Edgewood's Sam Quinones received a red card in the 65th minute, allowing the Falcons a man advantage over the final quarter of the match. The Eagles fell to 7-6-1 overall and 5-4-0 in conference play.
