Falcons Slight Favorites Over Raiders In Men’s Tennis Poll
WAUKESHA, Wis.- The Northern Athletics Conference men's tennis coaches tabbed Concordia Wisconsin as the favorite to win the 2012 conference title, according to the preseason poll.
The Falcons received five of the 10 first-place votes and tallied 93 poll points, just a single point ahead of MSOE, who finished second in the poll with 92 points and the remaining five first-place votes.
Last season the match between the two teams was the difference in the championship, as CUW (15-12 overall) ran the table with a perfect 9-0 record in league play for the fourth time in five seasons, while the Raiders (9-9 overall) finished 8-1.
The Falcons went on to defeat the Raiders a second time in the NAC Tournament, 5-1, which earned a trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament as the league's automatic qualifier.
In the prior season, MSOE took the NAC title with a perfect 8-0 record, keeping perfection as the winning formula for the conference title in the history of the NAC.
Edgewood (6-17, 5-4 NAC) was picked third in the poll with 71 points, followed by Dominican (8-8, 6-3) and Concordia Chicago (8-6, 7-2) to round out the top half. The complete poll results are listed below.
The 2012 NAC Tournament takes place April 30 and May 4, with tournament champion earning the conference's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA III Championship Tournament. The top six teams from the regular season conference standings qualify for the NAC Tournament.
