CUW shut out in singles play at USTA/ITA Regionals
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- Concordia Wisconsin's Russell Johnson (Jr./ Monticello, Wis.) and freshman Devin Larson both kept their first round matches close, but all six Falcons ended up on the short end of the score in singles play at the USTA/ITA Regionals held at Gustavus Adolphus Friday.
Johnson dropped a hard-fought 6-2, 6-4 decision to Austin Jiang of Carleton and Larson fell to Cooper Smith of Lawrence by a 6-4, 6-3 count.
Freshmen Nick Moe, Peter Dahlberg, and Brian Olson all lost in straight sets, as did junior Skip Turner (Eau Claire, Wis.).
CUW faired slightly better in doubles action as the Larson/Olson combination pulled out an 8-5 win over a Coe doubles team before being defeated by a UW-Whitewater pair 8-3.
