OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team was blanked by UW-Oshkosh, 9-0, Friday night at the Oshkosh YMCA.
The night started out with the Titans sweeping the three doubles matches with little trouble. UWO took all three matches by 8-1 scores, taking a 3-0 lead into singles play.
UWO (7-3) would continue its strong play in singles action, completing the sweep of the Falcons. Four of the six matches were won in straight sets for the Titans.
The strongest singles performances came from senior Russell Johnson (Monticello, Minn.) at No. 1 and junior Robert Spiering (Wauwatosa, Wis.) at No. 5. Both players battled their opponents to third-set tiebreakers, with Johnson falling in his 12-10 and Spiering dropping his by a 10-5 count.
CUW (1-5) will be back in action next Friday night when they host Adrian College in a non-conference match at the Paley Tennis Center. Play is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
