KENOSHA, Wis. – Senior Martin Hinze was named Track Athlete of the Meet as he led the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field team at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Indoor Championships Saturday. The Falcons finished third as a team, accumulating 91 points.
Hinze (Bourbonnais, Ill.) was outstanding in all three of his events, winning both the 3,000-meter and 5,000 meter runs, while being just edged out in the mile, finishing in second. His 5,000-meter time of 15:28.9 was a PR.
The distance team as a whole paced the Falcons as junior Andrew Coop (Mora, Minn.) added a 10-second PR in the 5,000-meter run and finished in second behind Hinze. He ran a 15:30.1 helping CUW add key points through that event. Coop added a PR in the 3,000-meter run (9:04.7) as he finished in fifth in the event.
Three other Falcons added PRs in the 5,000-meter run in sophomore Johann Hinck (Cedarburg, Wis.), junior Robert Meilbeck (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) and freshman Aaron Reseburg (Sheboygan, Wis.). Hinck shattered his previous best by 40 seconds with a time of 16:38.5. Meilbeck ran a 16:35.7, while Reseburg clocked in at 17:16.05.
The Falcons gained other PRs in running events, including freshman Brandon Goesch (Germantown, Wis.) in the 800-meter run. Goesch placed seventh in the event with a time of 2:04.8. Also earning a seventh-place finish was sophomore Seth Donovan (Caledonia, Wis.), with a PR of 23.41 in the 200-meter run. Junior Mike Prue (Kenosha, Wis.) just missed out on a PR in the 400-meter dash, but he did earn the bronze with a third-place finish.
In the field events CUW was led by junior Andrew Faber (Germantown, Wis.) as he set a new school-record in the weight throw. Faber recorded a throw of 15.84 meters, which was good for second place in the event. He added a sixth-place finish in the shot put, tossing 13.45 meters. Donovan added a PR in the shot put with a throw of 10.81 meters.
Sophomore Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.) turned in a pair of fourth-place finishes for the Falcons in the long jump and pole vault. Pham leaped a PR distance of 6.36 meters in the long jump, while clearing 3.65 meters in the pole vault. Junior Josh Lehr (Appleton, Wis.) cleared 3.80 meters in the pole vault, earning a medal with a third-place finish.
Two other Falcons threw PRs in the weight throw in sophomore Jake Kroll (Germantown, Wis.) and freshman Jesse Smrcka (New Boston, Mich.). Smrcka placed seventh with a toss of 13.09 meters, while Kroll marked 11.86 meters. Sophomore Trent Pacheco (Iron Mountain, Mich.) rounded out the PRs in the field events, gaining an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 12.04 meters.
