MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia University Wisconsin Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill has announced the addition of Men's Volleyball, the University's 29th varsity sport. A nationwide search for a head coach begins immediately.
"I am pleased to be adding Men's Volleyball to our roster of intercollegiate athletic programs," stated Barnhill. "The sport has grown both in high school participation and intercollegiate team formation and we wanted to be a part of that."
The Falcons are aiming to begin competition during the 2017-18 school year and the Men's Volleyball season runs from January through late April.
Men's Volleyball has grown recently in the Midwest and CUW becomes one of several local collegiate teams to participate in the sport. Carthage, Lakeland, Marian and MSOE, along with numerous other programs in the region currently compete at the NCAA Division III level.
Last season, 75 NCAA Division III programs competed and the NCAA has recognized Men's Volleyball at the Division III level since the 2012 season.
"We will begin our coaching search ASAP and have already started the recruitment process," Barnhill said. "We feel that this addition will help CUW to identify and attract top student-athletes from across the country."
