On September 24th and 25th, athletes from football, women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, women's hockey and softball took time out of their busy practice and game schedules to volunteer for the Feed My Starving Children event held inside the John Buuck Fieldhouse.
With nearly 1600 volunteers preparing 300,000 meals during the two-day event, many of the student athletes gave two hours of their day to help the cause. While giving back, the athletes also gained a global perspective of those in desperate need of nourishment.
According to their website, "Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God's starving children hungry in body and spirit." To fulfill that hunger, the organization relies on volunteers to hand-pack meals formulated specifically for starving children.
Once the hand-packed meals are completed, the Feed My Starving Children organization ships those meals to nearly 70 countries around the world. In the case of the event held here on campus, the food packaged went to hurricane victims in Haiti.
