Falling behind 6-0, Concordia rallied to within a single run but fell short to host Finlandia at the Finlandia University Dome Tournament on Saturday. Finlandia improved to 2-1, while the Falcons wrapped-up the first day of their 2011 season with a 1-1 record.
The Lions scored two runs in the first inning before a grand slam homerun was recorded by Finlandia pitcher Brittany Garland (who finished with five RBI's) in the second. The Falcons responded with three runs in the fourth and one run in both the fifth and sixth innings, but went down 1-2-3 in the seventh inning.
Abbie Goetsch and Cara Landherr each finished 2-for-4 at the plate for CUW, with Chelsie Strosina (2), Jannelle Schroder (2) and Sarah Cochran each registered RBI's.
Sheri Weidner earned the start, but suffered the loss after just 1 1/3 innings pitched. Ashley Draeger pitched 5 2/3 innings in relief, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out six.
The Falcons wrap-up their annual trip to Marquette with games against UW-Oshkosh and Simpson on Sunday.
