ROCKFORD, Ill. - Chelsie Strosina led
an offensive attack on Tuesday afternoon, as Concordia University
Wisconsin ripped 33 base hits en route to a Northern Athletics
Conference doubleheader sweep over Rockford College. The Falcons
won the first game 12-1 prior to run ruling the Regents 12-3 in six
innings to close out the series.
Strosina ripped three doubles and finished 7-for-9 at the plate,
while recording 10 total bases at Smith Athletic Field. The senior
from Burlington, Wis., also finished with a 1.111 slugging
percentage and a .800 on-base percentage. Abbie Goetsch and Mariah
Giesseman also swung hot bats as they combined for 11 hits in the
wins.
CUW (18-12, 13-3 NAC) finished with a season-high 17 hits in the
opener and batted .471 in the series. It also recorded six doubles
and tallied 22 RBI.
Game One Recap:
The Falcons pounded out a season-best 17 hits, including three by
Strosina and Giesseman (sophomore, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.). Leading 7-1
heading into the seventh they plated five insurance runs on five
hits to put the game away.
CUW plated the first two runs of the series after Giesseman began
the second frame with a double to center field. It later put
back-to-back sacrifices together and senior Janelle Schroeder
(Colgate, Wis.) capped the inning with a RBI single.
Three RBI singles increased the Falcons lead to 5-0 after three
innings of play.
They concluded the victory by batting around the order and scoring
five runs to push their advantage to 12-1. CUW reached on five
singles and capitalized on a pair of RC errors.
Game Two Recap:
The hits continued and the Falcons scored in five innings to
complete their fifth NAC sweep of the season.
Strosina again led CUW at the plate with a 4-for-4 performance to
go along with a season-high-tying three RBI. Giesseman and Goetsch
(junior, Grayslake, Ill.) also recorded three base knocks and
scored twice. In addition, sophomore Kelly Seibel (Fond du Lac,
Wis.) went 2-for-4 at the plate, to go along with a season-high two
runs and three RBI.
The Falcons scored two in the opening frame, another in the second
and blew the game wide open with four runs in the third to take a
quick 7-0 lead.
After the Regents scored twice in the fourth, CUW and RC traded
runs in the fifth.
Seibel and Strosina each laced a double in the sixth as the Falcons
scored four runs to earn a run-rule victory.

CUW returns to the diamond for a doubleheader in as many days
against Madison College (formerly MATC) at its complex. The first
pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
