WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Northern Athletics Conference released its 2011 women's golf preseason coaches' poll and our Concordia Falcons were picked to "three-peat" as conference champs this fall season.
The Falcons garnered 10 of 13 first-place votes for 164 poll points to secure the top spot. Last season, CUW captured the title with a 29-stroke cushion at the conference championship after leading by just four strokes after the first round.
CUW is led by three-time defending individual champion and player of the year Muriel McIntyre, who will be eyeing a perfect 4-0 run as champ. McIntyre had the league's best average at 85.4 per round last season, and boasts an 83.1 career average.
Edgewood was second in the poll with 147 points and a first-place vote, followed by Benedictine in third at 125 and a top vote. Northern Athletics Conference newcomer Minnesota-Morris debuts in fourth with 124 and the remaining first-place vote.
Marian (115) was slated fifth and Aurora (96) sixth to round out the top half of the poll. The complete preseason poll is available below.
The conference championship has been expanded from a two-round 36-hole event to a three-round 54-hole competition. The 2011 championship will take place at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago, Ill., October 2-4.
