Puch wins medalist honors after weather shortens Benedictine Invitational
WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – Inclement weather shortened the 36-hole Benedictine University Invitational to an 18 hole event, thus finalizing the results from Saturday, which gave Nina Puch medalist honors.
The sophomore from Des Plaines, Ill., carded a 76 to lead all golfers at the 5,831 yard, par-72 St. Andrews Golf and Country Club. As a team, Concordia University Wisconsin took seventh after shooting a 371 total.
Puch finished one shot better than Hannah Long (Monmouth College) after firing back-to-back 38s. She holed four birdies and nine pars, and was 1-under on par 5s – all of which led the tournament. Puch's 76 is the fourth lowest round of her career.
Monmouth College won the Invitational with a 341 score, while Augustana College tied for second with two teams in the tournament at 355.
Sophomore Lexi Westphal (Brownsville, Wis.) shot a 95 (46-49) to tie for 32nd place, while freshman Megan Reddersorf (Maregno, Ill.) is in a tie for 38th after shooting a 96 (48-48). Sophomore Madalyn Joannes (Wauwatosa, Wis.) shot a 104 (46-58) to tie for 55th and freshman Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) carded a 109 (48-61) to tie for 61st.
The Falcons recorded four birdies and 19 pars as a team. They were 29-over on par 3s and 33-over on par 5s.
CUW next hosts the Falcon Invitational on Tuesday at the River Club in Mequon, Wis.
