MEQUON, Wis. - Despite outshooting their opponents by a 36-27 margin, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team fell short against St. Norbert College on Wednesday night, losing 2-1 inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.
CUW (7-12-2, 5-10-1 NCHA) got a third period goal from freshman Samantha Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.), as well as 25 saves from freshman goalie Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.), but it wasn't enough as the Falcons suffered their seventh loss in their last eight games.
St. Norbert (11-12-0, 9-9-0 NCHA) won their third straight behind a pair of first period goals along with a stellar performance from goaltender Kaley Gibson.
The Green Knights built a 2-0 lead in the opening period after Lotta Haarala and Zoe Hurth scored twice in just over five minutes to give SNC the early advantage.
After a scoreless second period, the Falcons got on the board in the final frame when Reiter converted from in close off a centering pass from Kelsey Kusch (Saint Clair Shores, Mich.).
But despite pulling DeGeorge in the final minute of regulation, the Falcons couldn't convert one of their many chances, allowing the Green Knights to hang on for the win.
CUW will be back in action on Friday night, when they'll host a the first of a two-game series against NCHA rival St. Scholastica College.
