Women's Hockey drops road NCHA game at St. Norbert
DE PERE, Wis. – St. Norbert College lit the lamp early with four goals in the first period en route to a 6-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday evening at Cornerstone Center.
The Green Knights tallied their four goals in the first 10 minutes of the opening period to take command of the league matchup. In all, six different SNC players found the back of the net.
CUW's (4-12-3, 4-8-2 NCHA) lone score was a power-play success by Olivia Vogel (freshman, (Andover, Minn.) score at the nine minutes mark of the first period with freshman Michelle Musil (Maple Grove, Minn.) and sophomore Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) assisting.
The shots on goal were nearly even with SNC (8-8-2, 6-6-1 NCHA) finishing with a slight 37-35 advantage. The Green Knights did commit two more penalties, but the Falcons converted just 1-of-4 power-play chances.
Kaley Gibson earned the win between the pipes for SNC after recording 34 saves. Sophomore Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) and Kaitlyn Evans (Fairbanks, Alaska) both played in goal for CUW and combined for 31 saves.
CUW completes the home-and-home matchup on Saturday at the Ozaukee Ice Center in Mequon, Wis. The puck is scheduled to drop at 4 p.m.
