MEQUON, Wis. – The intensity was at an all-time high Saturday afternoon in NCHA play between St. Norbert College and Concordia University Wisconsin, as the two programs matched each other's aggressiveness for three periods. The games changer was a Green Knights goal with eight seconds left in the final period to give them a victory 2-1 at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
With time diminishing in the final period, CUW sophomore goaltender Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) made a spectacular deflection near the bottom-left section of the crease, but SNC defenseman Katie Colon scored off the rebound with eight seconds remaining in the game-winning score.
The Green Knights outshot the Falcons 33-17 on goal for the matchup, which proved to be the difference maker.
SNC (9-8-2, 7-6-1 NCHA) managed to get on the board first in the initial stanza when Henriette Ostergaard converted a power-play opportunity with Lauren Roethlisberger assisting.
CUW (4-13-3, 4-9-2 NCHA) responded shortly after as sophomore forward Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) fired a goal into the back of the net on a beautiful assist from sophomore forward Samantha Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) from the far right-side zone.
In the middle of the final frame, three penalties between the two teams were called within one minute of each other, which set the stage for a hostile final few minutes. CUW and SNC showcased brute force against the boards with a total of seven penalties called in the third frame.
Next up for the Falcons will be a home series against No. 10 Adrian College on Feb. 1-2 at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Friday's game time is set for a 7 p.m. start
