WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team was selected fifth in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's Coaches Preseason Poll, released by the league office Monday.
The Falcons earned 17 points in the poll and finished ninth in the 11-team league in 2012-13. This season the NCHA has a new look as four schools left the conference, making it a seven-team league.
St. Norbert College was picked to win the league after finishing fourth last season. The Green Knights went 18-10-2 a season ago and are the defending NCHA Tournament Champions. SNC was not a clear-cut favorite, however, as three teams received first-place votes and the top four were separated by just five poll points. St. Norbert received four first-place votes and 31 points.
Adrian College was slotted for a second-place finish, despite not receiving any first-place votes. The Bulldogs earned 28 points and were followed by Lake Forest College, who received 27 points and one first-place vote. St. Scholastica got the remaining two first-place votes, receiving 26 points.
Following CUW was Marian University with 12 poll points, while Finlandia University rounded out the poll with six points.
CUW will begin its season with two conference games against Finlandia University, November 1 and 2. The NCHA schedule will pit teams against one another three times each during the regular season. The Falcons home opener will be November 9, a non-conference matchup against Augsburg College.
