Concordia University-Wisconsin will offer NCAA D. 3 men's and women's varsity lacrosse beginning in the spring of 2011 according to CUW Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill.
"Lacrosse has become increasingly popular in high schools and clubs in the Midwest over recent years. We believe that there is sufficient interest from prospective student athletes to support lacrosse at Concordia University and this growth is consistent with strategic campus initiatives. Because NCAA lacrosse is played in the spring, we felt this sport would be a good fit and would complement our current athletic offerings and facilities."
Barnhill and his staff will begin the process of identifying and selecting head coaches "almost immediately". CUW sponsors all of the current 18 Northern Athletics Conference-sponsored sports ( plus men's and women's hockey and wrestling which play in separate leagues ) .
NAC athletic teams on the men's side include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. Women's squads currently compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and volleyball within the NAC.
