MILWAUKEE – Marcus Lubner won the 133 pound weight class and Sean Ambrocio placed second at 125 pounds at the MSOE Invitational on Saturday. Concordia University Wisconsin took third place as a team at the competitive wrestling tournament.
Lubner (senior, Fredonia, Wis.) defeated Mason Bohm (UW-Platteville) by decision, 11-8, before earning another victory by decision, 11-10, over Aaron Anderson (Central College) for the championship.
CUW earned 87.5 points, which included Lubner's championship, Ambrocio's second place finish and fourth place finishes by sophomore Pierce Holtfreter (Las Vegas, Nev.), junior Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) and junior Jake Reuteler (New Berlin, Wis.)
Ambrocio (junior, San Antonio, Texas) earned two wins in the championship bracket before falling in the title bout. He defeated Abe Fernandez (Central College) by decision, 12-6, before getting past Cole Ferguson (UW-Platteville) by decision, 9-4. In the title bout Ambrocio couldn't score enough points and eventually fell to fifth-ranked Daniel Page (Central College), by decision, 8-1.
Holtfreter won a trio of matches to earn a fourth-place medal. He was victorious over Aaric Spencer (UW-Platteville) by major decision, 8-0, TreJon House (MSOE) by fall, 2:15 and Aaric Spencer (UW-Platteville) by decision, 12-10.
Kenealy won four matches to earn a spot on the podium. He defeated James Young (Knox) by fall, 0:39, Camron Lanterman (Hannibal LaGrange University) by fall, 1:06, Mitchell Fucile (Lakeland College) by decision, 5-2, and Trent Larson (UW-Platteville) by major decision, 13-3.
Reuteler tallied four different kinds of wins to earn a medal. He defeated Robert Caulfeild (St. Olaf College) by technical fall, 17-1, Jeremy Kroeger (Lakeland College) by decision, 3-1, David Demmer (Central College) by fall, 0:24, and Jeremy Kroeger (Lakeland College) by forfeit.
Also earning wins on the mat at the MSOE Invitational were freshman Brandon Mayhew over Matt Sugai (Knox College) by fall, 0:32, and junior Greg Sanders (San Antonio, Texas) over William Byrd (Wheaton College) by major decision, 16-5.
Senior Leonard Kuspa (Oak Forest, Ill.) won over Zach Moss (Central College) by decision, 8-4, and Dylan DeShane (UW-Platteville) by decision, 5-4. Freshman Mac Braylock (Atlanta, Ga.) defeated John Walton (Maranatha Baptist Bible College) by fall, 0:47, and Jesse Gjefle (Maranatha Baptist Bible College) by fall, 4:42. Senior Seth Kilkelly (Barneveld, Wis.) defeated Jaime Miranda (Central College) by decision, 10-5.
CUW returns to the mat on Wednesday for a dual meet at UW-Parkside at 7 p.m.
