Women’s Soccer Cruises to NAC Victory
Box Score: CUW 13, RC 0
ROCKFORD, Ill. - It didn't take long for the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team to secure a victory in their Northern Athletics Conference opener over Rockford College. The Falcons poured in five goals in the first 13:28 en route to a 13-0 shutout Tuesday afternoon at Smith Athletic Field.
CUW (1-1-0, 1-0-0 NAC) finished with an unbelievable 56 shots - 35 on goal - as a total of 30 players saw the field. The Falcons were led by sophomore Ashley Apazeller (Jackson, Wis.), sophomore Hannah Brehmer (Eagle River, Wis.), and junior Lauren Straehler (Pewaukee, Wis.) who each found the back of the net twice. In all, 10 players were able to finish with a goal.
"This was a good start to our conference season," head coach Ryan Middendorf said. "It was an opportunity for many players to see quality minutes. I am pleased with how our team continued to play within our system and respected the game and our opponent."
The 13 goals were the second highest ever scored in a NAC contest, only to CUW's 16 goals scored in a win over the Regents (2-1-0, 0-1-0 NAC) on Sept. 21, 2006. It was the eighth time the Falcons scored double-digit goals since joining the league.
In goal, junior Samantha Anacker (Janesville, Wis.), sophomore Lisa Donaldson (Greenfield, Wis.), and freshman Katrina Gucinski (Appleton, Wis.) all saw at least 17:55 between the pipes.
The Falcons return home on Saturday for a non-conference matchup against Lake Forest College at 1 p.m. at Fitting Field.
