Straehler Records Hat Trick, Women’s Soccer Blanks Concordia Chicago
RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Lauren Straehler recorded her first hat trick of the season and the remainder of the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team added three more goals en route to a 6-0 Northern Athletics Conference shutout victory over Concordia University Chicago on Saturday afternoon.
Straehler (junior, Pewaukee, Wis.) not only recorded her second career hat trick, but also assisted on two goals as the Falcons (3-3-0, 3-0-0 NAC) outshot the Cougars (3-2-0, 0-2-0 NAC) 29-7 in the win.
It didn't take long for Straehler to find the back of the net as she scored just 6:24 into the match. A little over seven minutes later senior Kelly Sippel (Fond du Lac, Wis.) scored her only goal of the contest on a header off a corner kick with Straehler and senior Renee Hecker (Harrison Township, Mich.) recording assists on the tally.
Junior Kelly Bolli (Eagle River, Wis.) got into the scoring column with her own goal at the 32:51 mark of the opening half to give CUW a 3-0 advantage.
Straehler scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season off a penalty kick and an unassisted strike from 20 yards out to increase the Falcon advantage to 5-0 with less than 20 minutes remaining in the match. Freshman Mary Harris (Cicero, Ill.) found the twine for her second goal of the season off a Straehler assist with less than three minutes to play.
In all, head coach Ryan Middendorf played 23 players in the victory. The Falcons have outscored their NAC opponents by a combined score of 22-0 in their three victories.
CUW finishes its two-match road trip with a NAC contest at Lakeland College on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The Falcons return home on Saturday, Sept. 24 to begin a four-match homestand against Alverno College at 3:30 p.m.
