MEQUON, Wis.- Both teams came into this contest with 7-2-0 NAC records but CUW controlled all aspects of play from start to finish in a 4-0 domination of Marian Wednesday afternoon at Fitting Field.
Ryan Middendorf's Falcons, 12-4-0 on the season overall, got a 20 yard scoring blast from senior Lauren Straehler (Pewaukee, Wis.) just 12 minutes into the contest and never looked back.
Carley Pfannerstill was just too fast for Sabre defenders on the outside, creating a variety of scoring opportunities with the pressure she put on the Marian backs. The Grafton freshman scored twice herself with sophomore teammate Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) adding a goal and an assist to her resume as the CUW offense connected beautifully on passes while creating a 26-8 shot differential.
"We really put things together in the first half ... almost right from the beginning," beamed Middendorf. "I was worried about this match because they (the Sabres) play strong defense and really took it to us last year. We are playing our best soccer at the right time."
CUW, which has outscored Benedictine, UW-Oshkosh, and Marian by a 10-0 margin in their three most recent matches, will host Dominican on Saturday at 3:30pm.
