Women's Tennis wins two more NAC matches

AURORA, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin cruised to two more Northern Athletics Conference victories on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons downed Aurora University, 8-1, before blanking Benedictine University, 9-0, on each school's court.

The Falcons (7-1, 7-1 NAC) won all three doubles matches against the Spartans to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Seniors Julie Spransy (Brown Deer, Wis.) and Callie Reinke (West Allis, Wis.) each handed their opponents 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 defeats in singles competition to lead the team to victory.

"I was very happy and impressed at how well we played singles in this match," head coach Steven Anschutz said. "Yes, we lost one singles match today, but it was in a tight super tiebreaker, and those can swing any way on any day. Although we won the doubles matches, there are steps we need to take in doubles to raise our level of play as a whole team in order to compete and make it to National Tournament. We will continue to make these strides day-by-day and learn from each point."

Spransy and senior Jaclyn Ward (Franklin, Wis.) partnered to win 8-0 during their doubles match against the Eagles. In singles play, it was sophomore Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) who paced the Falcons in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over her opponent.

"Everyone on the team came out to perform and do their duty today to get us a pair of wins," Anschutz said. "It's hard to come out to these matches and ask for more, but that is what we do because we know there is more to achieve. From a coaches perspective, it's awesome to see your players win as big as they have and to be able to hold their heads high, while also coming to practice to work harder every day to play harder."

CUW returns to the court for its final home match of the season on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at North Shore Country Club against MSOE.
