KENOSHA, Wis. - The Track & Field season has begun as the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's team began its 2014 campaign at the Private College Invitational Saturday. The meet was hosted by Carthage College and saw 11 teams compete.
The Falcons only had a few strong performances in the season-opening meet. As a team, CUW scored 18 points.
Junior Andrea Kassees (Waukesha, Wis.) threw a PR of 10.61 meters in the shot put and sophomore Karli Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.) also posted a PR in the weight with a toss of 12 meters. Tatum's mark broke her previous best throw by 1.5 meters.
On the track, junior Emily Mauermann (Janesville, Wis.) ran well, placing third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 400. Mauermann recorded times of 27.36 and 1:02.13, respectively.
A pair of freshmen had great first collegiate performances for CUW. Colleen Sauvey (De Pere, Wis.) and Delaney Verba (Milwaukee, Wis.) both debuted well. Sauvey recorded a throw of 10.31 meters in the weight throw, while Verba posted a 9.5 meter toss in the shot put.
The Falcons will be off next weekend before returning to Carthage once again for the Tadd Metzger Invitational on January 31.
