Women's Track & Field opens outdoor season at Washington University Invite

ST. LOUIS – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Track & Field team began its 2014 outdoor season at the Washington University Invitational this past Friday and Saturday.

The Falcons had a few athletes gain new personal records as several competed this weekend at a very competitive meet. While the weather wasn't ideal for outdoor competition, the Falcons did have a quality start to the outdoor season.

The hammer throw saw three CUW student-athletes post personal records led by freshman Colleen Sauvey (De Pere, Wis.). Sauvey's best mark was 29.49 meters. She competed in four events throughout the weekend and also added a PR in the javelin throw, landing a mark of 23.35 meters.

Sophomore Karli Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.) and freshman Delaney Verba (Milwaukee, Wis.) both had PRs in the hammer throw as well. Tatum posted a throw of 28.67 meters, while Verba recorded 26.77 as CUW had a strong showing in the event.

Rounding out the list of PRs for the Falcons at the meet was sophomore Allison Justus (Arnold, Mo.), who was competing in her home state. Justus leaped 4.00 meters in the long jump and also competed in the triple jump.

CUW will return to action next weekend by competing in the Carroll University Invite. The meet is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
