ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Six of seven Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Cross Country runners recorded personal best times, and all seven finished with season-bests as the Falcons concluded their season at the NCAA Division III Midwest Championships Saturday. The meet was run at Saukie Golf Course and hosted by Augustana College.
The Falcons finished 23rd out of 38 teams which record team scores. CUW was third among NACC schools, finishing behind Aurora University and Edgewood College.
A pair of freshman paced the Falcons up front as Jennifer Goeman (Florence, Wis.) and Ashley Scheele (Kohler, Wis.) wrapped up their impressive rookie campaigns. Goeman ran a PR time of 24:10.3 and was followed by Scheele who clocked in at 24:27.8, also a personal best.
Senior Kelsey Wagner (Kenosha, Wis.) saved her best performance for last as she concluded her cross country career with a 24:47.6. Next in line was freshman Lindsey Fratzke (Winona, Minn.) who came across the finish line in 25:20.3, a PR as well. Senior Caitlyn Stern (Mequon, Wis.) rounded out the CUW scoring lineup, running a 25:23.0, which was her top time of 2013.
Also running on Saturday for Concordia Wisconsin was junior Jolyn Achs (Gurnee, Ill.) and freshman Meagan Rummage (Turkey). Each runner recorded a PR, Achs finishing in 25:33.4, while Rummage completed the 6K course in 26:26.1.
Lucy Cheadle of Washington University ran to the individual title, beating the field of 282 runners with a time of 21:31.4. The University of Chicago won the team title, scoring 60 points and easily distancing themselves from runner up, UW-La Crosse.
