Game two of Saturday's softball doubleheader did not turn out as
well for the Falcons as they dropped a 3-2 decision to
CU-Chicago.
The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when
Colleen Mullaney doubled home a pair of teammamtes.
The Falcons got single tallies in the fourth and fifth to tie
things up against the (11-29) Cougars, but missed golden
opportunities for more.
In the 4th Jenna DiMaggio singled and score on Emily Bennin's
double but CUW left the bases loaded that inning.
Stephanie Brunette doubled ahead of DiMaggio's run scoring hit
in the fifth, but two runners were stranded in scoring
position.
Steve Crook's Falcons also had plenty of baserunners over the
remaining frames but it was CU- Chicago that came up with the
game-winner as Lindsay Paluch's run scoring single in the bottom of
the 8th ended a day of high drama.
CUW dropped to 22-16 on the season and 14-8 in the NAC. Sheri
Weidner (7-6) was the hard-luck loser, pitching a complete
game.
