Klumpp finishes with pair of goals, helps Women's Soccer past MSOE

MILWAUKEE – Junior Brittany Klumpp scored her team-leading 16th and 17th goals of the season in helping lead the Concordia University Women's Soccer team to a much-needed 4-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over MSOE Saturday. The Falcons scored twice in each half for the win at Viets Field.

For Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) it was her sixth multiple-goal match of the season and the 11th of her career. She now has 97 points in her career, including 44 goals as she continues to produce as one of the Falcons top offensive threats. Her first goal (38:05-unassisted) proved to be the game-winner.

The win was important for the Falcons as it kept them in control of their own destiny for the No. 2 seed in the NACC Tournament. CUW will face Edgewood next and the winner will have the upper-hand on the first-round bye in the six-team league tournament. Aurora is almost assured of being the top seed.

Sophomore Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) stopped four shots, two in each half, in picking up the win for the Falcons. CUW kept the Raiders goalkeeper, Mary McFee, busy all afternoon as she finished with seven saves.

Joining Klumpp in the goal column Saturday was junior Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) and senior Anna Hirssig (Rochester, Minn.). Pfannerstill provided the matches' opening goal, scoring 26:56 into play on an assist from junior Krista Oelhafen (Allenton, Wis.).

Klumpp's game-winner then appeared it would also give CUW a 2-0 halftime lead but MSOE struck with just 15 seconds before the break. Kassidy Girmscheid scored the unassisted goal for the Raiders.

In the second half Hirssig put the Falcons back up two on a header scored off a corner kick from senior Ashley Apazeller (Jackson, Wis.). Klumpp then put the finishing touches on the Raiders with a goal, this one assisted by Oelhafen, her second of the match.

Despite the three-goal victory the shots ended up even at 15-15. CUW held an 11-5 advantage in the first 45 minutes but MSOE put 10 shots on compared to the Falcons four in the second half. The big difference proved to be that the Falcons put 11 of their 15 shots on goal, while MSOE had just five on goal.

CUW (10-5-0, 5-2-0) will have to wait until Wednesday night for the pivotal matchup against Edgewood. The Falcons and Eagles are set for a 7 p.m. start from Reddan Soccer Park in Verona, Wis.
