WHEATON, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin dropped its first dual meet of the season on Friday night, 23-18, at Wheaton College inside King Arena. The Falcons trailed 20-18 in the match entering the 285-pound weight class, but was unable to pull out a victory in extra time.

CUW trailed 20-15 entering the 197-pound weight class before senior Jake Reuteler (New Berlin, Wis. earned an 11-5 decision victory to pull the visitors within two points, 20-18. The deciding match of the night came down to junior Paul Carter (Waukesha, Wis.) and Logan Walkup. The Falcons owned a 7-1 lead in the bout, but the Thunder came back to send the match into overtime and eventually won on a two-point takedown.

CUW won back-to-back bouts after senior Sean Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) pinned his 133-pound opponent in four minutes and 36 seconds. Sophomore Joshua Curcio (Granger, Ind.) earned a win by forfeit to five the Falcons an early 12-5 lead.

After three straight wins by WC to put them in front 17-12, sophomore Mason Mergener (Crivitz, Wis.) picked up an 8-4 decision victory to cut the deficit to 17-15 for the Falcons.

CUW will have 22 days off before next competing at Elmhurst College in a dual meet.
