Men's Golf competes at difficult Battle at Blackthorn

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Concordia University Wisconsin faced stiff competition at two-day Battle at Blackthorn tournament, hosted Bethel College, at Blackthorn Golf Course. The Falcons placed 11th, while Evan Rabas paced the team with a tie for 42nd.

CUW struggled against teams from the NAIA, with just one of its five golfers improving a stroke from round one to round two. Host Bethel College won the team trophy with a 596 total (301-295), while the Falcons finished with a 651 total (317-334).

Jon Schram (Grace College), Drew Day (Bethel College) and Taylor Imel (Marian University-Indiana) all tied for individual medalist honors with a 3-over-par 147 total. Schram carded the lowest round of the trio with an E-par 72 on Friday.

Sophomore Evan Rabas (Sherwood, Wis.) paced the Falcons with a 160 total (78-82) to tie for 42nd place. Junior Bill Jones (New Holstein, Wis.) finished with a tie for 46th after shooting a 161 total (77-84), while junior Mike Loftus (Germantown, Wis.) ended in a tie for 55th after carding a 164 (81-83). Senior Chris Payne (Waukesha, Wis.) had a 166 total (81-85) to tie for 60th and sophomore Oliver Sadiq (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) rounded out the line up with a 173 total (87-86) for a 73rd place finish.

CUW returns to the links on Sunday, Sept. 21 for the Benedictine University Invitational at St. Andrew Golf Club in West Chicago, Ill.
