Women's Golf wins season-opening tournament

FOND dU LAC, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin had five Women's Golfers finish in the top eight, as they won the Marian University Fall Invitational by 44 strokes at Whispering Springs Golf Course.

It was the Falcons first competition of the season, after Friday's dual meet at Lake Forest College was rained out. Junior Nina Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) and sophomore Bridget Slater (Roseau, Minn.) each fired 92s during the first round to put the Falcons in front, as they led by 27 shots going into Monday's second and final round.

Puch took second place with a 188 total (92-96), which was six shots behind Ellyn Mortell's (Wisconsin Lutheran College) medalist score of 182 (90-92). It was a good start to CUW's season because Slater shot a career low and three freshmen earned valuable time in competition.

Slater fired a 189 total (92-97) to tie for third place, while sophomore Megan Reddersdorf (Marengo, Ill.) tied for fifth with a 200 total (97-103). The opening round 97 shot by Reddersdorf was the fourth sub-100 round of her career.

Freshman Haley Olkiewicz (Oshkosh, Wis.) shot a 209 total (105-104) to finish tied for eighth in her first career event and junior Lexi Westphal (Brownsville, Wis.) also tied for eighth with a 209 total (103-106). Freshmen Madeline Poll (Alto, Mich.) improved 11 strokes from the opening round and carded a 217 total (114-103) for 12th place, while freshman Amanda Gorshe (Appleton, Wis) shot a 225 total (112-113) to take 16th.

The Falcons return to action on Friday and Saturday for the two-day Pilot Invitational, hosted by Bethel College (Ind.) at Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
