Ambrocio, Reuteler place for Wrestling at Pete Willson Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. – Sean Ambrocio placed third in the 133-pound bracket at the Pete Willson Invitational as the Concordia University Wisconsin Wrestling Team competed at the always-challenging event. Also placing for the Falcons was another senior, Jake Reuteler at 197 pounds, who finished sixth.

Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) won his first three matches, two by decision and one by major decision, before falling in the semifinals to Trevor Pruett from UW-Whitewater. The loss dropped Ambrocio down to face Bryan Pflanza of Elizabethtown, where he advanced to the third-place match with a 4-1 decision victory. He took on Brandon Preston of Trine in the third-place match, winning a hard-fought 1-0 decision.

Reuteler (New Berlin, Wis.) advanced to the fifth-place match in the 197-pound bracket, also placing for the Falcons. Reuteler started his run with a 4-3 decision victory before falling in his second bout. He then won two more matches by decision victory before dropping to the second seed, Jared Groeneveld of Alma. He would fall in the fifth-place match, finishing in sixth.

Sophomore Joshua Curcio (Granger, Ind.) picked up a pair of wins at 141 pounds, finishing his tournament at 2-2. Curcio lost his opening bout before winning the next two, an 8-3 win over Cory Hawk of Wabash and an 11-9 decision over Curtis Blackwell of Olivet. Curcio's tournament ended against Chad Lammar of Elizabethtown.

Other Falcons to gain wins at the Invitational were senior Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) at 165 pounds, sophomore Mason Baumgartner (Slinger, Wis.) at 184 pounds and sophomore John Hinson (Glendale, Ariz.) at 285 pounds.

Kenealy won his opening match, a 16-0 tech fall in 4:07 against Kevin Groves of Trine. Hinson also picked up a win in his opening bout, a 12-2 major decision versus Grayson Miller of Muskingum. Baumgartner's lone win also came in his opening match as he picked up a pin over Alex Roberts of Manchester in 2:42.

The Falcons placed 17th as a team, scoring 32 points and tying with John Carroll. UW-Whitewater won the team title, while Messiah was the runner-up.

CUW will be back in action next Friday night, hosting Lakeland in a dual meet. Action is set to get underway at the R. John Buuck Field House at 7 p.m.
