EUGENE, Ore. – Concordia University Wisconsin traveled across the country for a head-to-head competition against the four-time reigning NCATA champions, the University of Oregon, on Saturday night. The Ducks defeated the Falcons by a score of 275.490 to 239.815.
The Falcons again performed well in the pyramid portion of the meet and improved in other areas since the program's inaugural competition on Feb. 7 against Baylor University and Quinnipiac University.
CUW began the night by scoring 33.7 points in the Compulsory event, which included a 9.6 score in the pyramid part of the routine. They also scored a 9.56 in the Toss routine. They then moved into the Acro event of the night and totaled 26.2 points out of a possible 30, as the start value for each heat was the maximum 10.
With Oregon leading 68.2 to 59.9, the Falcons entered their strongest part of the meet – the Pyramid routine. They recorded a 9.35, 9.55 and a 9.25 for a total of 28.15 out of a possible 29.95. CUW then had difficulties in the Toss event and scored 23.7 points, which allowed the Ducks to increase their lead to 126.65 to 111.75.
CUW accumulated 41.375 points in the six-event Tumbling routine of the meet, which featured a 7.925 in the Open. The Falcons concluded the night by improving dramatically in the Team Route and scored an 86.69. Two weeks ago, CUW tallied a 75.140 in the Team Routine.
Oregon was mourning the death of teammate Lauren Jones, who passed away on Tuesday unexpectedly.
CUW returns to action on Sunday, March 8 at Adrian College, and will also compete against King College in the triangular meet.
