Softball hits road bump against NCAA Regional finalists

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Falcons fell in a pair of games against teams that reached the NCAA Regional finals in 2018. Geneseo, who is receiving 11 votes in the most recent NFCA rankings and reached the NCAA Regional finals in 2018, downed the Falcons, 5-3. The Blue and White closed the day with a 4-2 loss against Hope, who advanced to the 2018 Super Regionals.

Geneseo started the day with a pair of runs in the first inning.

In the second inning, junior Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) doubled to right center to score sophomore Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.).

The Knights added two more runs in the third inning on a double.

Senior Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) doubled to center field the scored junior Emily Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.).

Jenna Pozezinski then had a sacrifice fly to score junior Samantha Schloegl.

Freshman Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) had three strikeouts in the circle.

The CUW defense was stellar to start the game. With the bases loaded, senior Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) caught a ball in center field and pegged the Flying Dutch runner at home plate.

Junior Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) singled to left center in the fifth inning to score freshman Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) and Sara Rosenow.

The Flying Dutch scored all four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Taylor Kuske also took out a Hope runner at the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Falcons look to bounce back on Wednesday against Buffalo State and Bethel.
