Softball splits with Spartans

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Falcons improved to 15-8 on the season with a split at Aurora on Tuesday evening. CUW remains in first place in the NACC softball standings at 10-2. The Falcons extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 6-0 victory in game one. However, the Spartans rallied to take game two, 2-0.

Senior Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) singled to center field in the first inning to score junior Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.).

Molly O'Connell then had a solo home run to right-center field in the third inning.

The Blue and White added four more runs in the fifth inning.

Senior Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) singled down the right-field line to score Molly O'Connell.

Junior Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.) then had a single that scored freshman Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.) and Maddie Zazas.

A sacrifice fly from senior Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) scored Sara Rosenow to close the scoring in game one.

Freshman Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) tied her career high with nine strikeouts in the victory.

Emma Schimberg led the flock with three hits.

The 10-game winning streak was the longest since 2015, when the Falcons won 12-straight games.

Game two saw the Spartans strike with a sacrifice fly in the third inning and a single to score a run in the fifth inning.

Four Falcons recorded a hit in game two.

Nicki Becker only allowed five hits in the circle and had one strikeout.

The Falcons will have a quick turnaround and play at Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday.
