MEQUON, Wis. – For the first time in program history, the Falcons are the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season champions. This is the second regular season title in program history, with a 2002 Lake Michigan Conference title. The Falcons secured the outright title with a 12-5, 6-3 sweep of Rockford. The Blue and White close the regular season with a 24-9 record and 19-3 record in the NACC.
The Falcons opened the scoring in the first inning with a double off the bat of senior Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) into the gap in right-center field. Junior Samantha Schloegl (Genoa City, Wis.) and junior Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) scored. Zazas later scored on a stolen base attempt.
The Regents scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
In the fourth inning, freshman Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) singled up the middle of the infield to score senior Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.).
Junior Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.) singled through the left side of the infield in the fifth inning to score Samantha Schloegl.
The Regents did not fold and scored two runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh inning to tie the game.
The Falcons' offense exploded in the ninth inning with seven runs.
Senior Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) doubled up the middle to score Maddie Zazas.
Emma Schimberg then blasted the ball over the fence to score Sara Rosenow and sophomore Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.).
Samantha Schloegl then doubled down the left field line to score freshman Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) and Becky Bonnin.
Maddie Zazas closed the scoring on a double to center field to send home Samantha Schloegl.
Gina Followell tied her career high with nine strikeouts in the circle. Nicki Becker earned her seventh victory.
Maddie Zazas tied the school record with four hits in game one.
The 21 hits are the second most in program history.
Despite being pummeled behind the plate, senior Samantha Schumacher (Freedom, Wis.) did not allow a stolen base and picked off one would be runner.
The Blue and White wasted no time jumping on the Regents in game two.
Jenna Pozezinski grounded out in the first inning to score Molly O'Connell.
Sara Rosenow then zipped around the bases after a home run to center field to also score Samantha Schloegl.
The Falcons added onto the lead in the fourth inning on a Becky Bonnin bunt scored Emma Schimberg.
Freshman Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) then sent home Bonnin on a ground out.
A bases-loaded walk put the Regents on the scoreboard in the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, Emma Schimberg singled down the right-field line to score Sara Rosenow.
Rockford added a run in the fifth and seventh inning.
Junior Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) earned her fourth victory of the year in the circle.
Freshman Payton Dorn (Freedom, Wis.) broke her career record with six strikeouts.
MSOE finished in second place in the NACC.
The Falcons will compete on Thursday at 6:00 in the NACC Tournament against the winner of Marian and Dominican.
