MEQUON, Wis.- The CUW esports team is starting to wind down for the Fall season, but is still locked in some heated, post-season matchups.
On Monday, Nov. 22, the Valorant team took on Alabama-Huntsville for the rights to move on to the semifinal round. In a NECC week one rematch, the Falcons proved why they are where they are.
In a dominant, 2-0 victory, the Falcons advanced to the semifinal round. The matchup saw game scores of 13-5 and 13-3. The Falcons were led by freshman Josh Imlah (Lombard, Ill.) with 42 eliminations and 12 assists. The Falcons put up 151 eliminations in the two-game matchup with only 87 deaths. Coach Slater had this to say after the matchup, "This is proof that if we play our best, we can't lose. This team had a higher seed than us and we blew them out. There is nobody we can't beat." The Valorant squad takes on the top-seeded Eau Claire on the 29th. This will be a rematch of their week three matchup that saw a 2-0 Eau Claire victory. The winner of this semifinal matchup with advance to the finals and claim the right to call themselves "Best in the State."
In another Monday quarterfinal, the League of Legend team took on Lees McRae in a week six rematch.
Lees McRae flipped the script on the Falcons after the 2-0 Falcon victory in week six. After the Falcons took the first game, the Bobcats posted two wins in games two and three to finish with a 2-1 victory. The League of Legends team was eliminated from NECC post-season play.
In the upcoming week for the Falcons, the Rocket League team takes on Rogers State in the NECC Semifinals and Rainbow 6 Siege takes on Murray State in the NECC Semifinals as well.
With a perfect season still intact, senior captain Austin Esterly (Lombard, Ill.) looks to lead a highly motivated squad to a long-awaited championship. The Falcons have swept their last four opponents including this very Rogers State team. The Falcons have their eyes on the prize and look to win it all.
After getting their quarterfinal matchup revenge against Baker, The CUW Rainbow 6 Siege team looks to do the same against top-ranked Murray State. The Falcons are out to shock the world as underdogs in a NECC week five rematch. In this matchup, the Falcons were defeated by a final score of 0-2 with game scores of 5-7 and 0-7. The Falcons look to flip the script in this semifinal matchup.
