FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Falcons were kept warm on Wednesday night on a cold night at Marian with the fire that was once again coming from the Concordia bats and from the circle. The Falcons brought out the brooms on the Sabres with 8-0 and 8-1 victories to remain the only unbeaten team in NACC play.
Junior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) silenced the Sabres once again on Wednesday. She threw a perfect game against the Sabres and finished game one with 12 strikeouts. Followell finished the two-day series with 30 strikeouts and did not allow one hit.
Senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) got the party started at home plate with a single to center field in the third inning that scored sophomore Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.).
Sophomore Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) hit the ball so hard it cleared the fence and local officials say it might still be in flight. The blast also scored sophomore Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.).
A single from Sydney Erdman crossed freshman Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.) across home plate.
Sophomore Madison Wheat (Cowerta, Okla.) wasted no time and then hit another single to right field to score sophomore Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.).
Sydney Erdmann later scored on an error and Madison Wheat scored the sixth run of the inning on a sacrifice fly from junior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.).
Kuske scored the final run of the game in the sixth inning, when she safely sent home Kelsey Bollon.
Kelsey Bollon had three of Concordia's 12 hits.
Head coach Steve Crook won his 450th career victory as well on Wednesday.
The Sabres scored their lone run of the day in the first inning of game two, but it would be all CUW from there.
Junior Kristen Fontana (Hickory Hills, Ill.) tied the game with her back in the second inning to score Taylor Kuske.
Junior Krystal Cortes (Aurora, Ill.) gave the Falcons the lead with a shot to first base that scored Claudia Utz.
The Falcons continued to pour it on in the second inning when Sydney Erdmann sent the ball into the gap in left-center field to score Fontana and Gaziano.
The Marian defense was less than stellar on Wednesday and the Falcons made the Black and Blue pay for their mistakes.
Erdmann closed the second-inning scoring on an error.
The Falcons took advantage of another Marian error in the third inning to send in Taylor Kuske.
Sydney Erdmann scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning and Kuske scored on an error in the seventh inning.
Junior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) once again kept the Marian batters under control in her ninth victory of the season. She only allowed four hits and finished with four strikeouts.
The Falcons look to stay hot this weekend against the Inferno of Alverno.
