MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW softball team celebrated the senior classes of 2020 and 2021 on Sunday afternoon against Lakeland in the regular-season finale. The Falcons finish the regular season with a 28-6 record and an 18-2 mark in NACC play with a 2-0 victory in game one and a 2-1 loss in game two.
Sophomore Ashley Zappa started the game one scoring in the second inning with a single to left-center field to score junior Alyssa Vilkoski (Greenfield, Wis.).
In the fourth inning, sophomore Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) scored junior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) on a play in the infield.
Junior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Wis.) had nine strikeouts in the victory and only allowed three hits.
Sophomore Sydney Erdmann finished with a game-high two hits.
The Muskies scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead and momentum.
CUW found its way onto the scoreboard in the seventh inning when freshman Madison Wheat (Cowerta, Okla.) was walked with the bases loaded to send home freshman Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.).
Junior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) finished the game with five strikeouts.
The Falcons will meet the Muskies again on Thursday at the NACC North Division Championships at Marian.
